About Universal Theatrical Group: Universal Theatrical Group (UTG) is the live stage division of Universal Pictures. UTG develops, produces, and manages stage adaptations of Universal’s iconic films as well as original theatrical projects. The Role: UTG is seeking a senior attorney to join our team, reporting to the Head of Legal Affairs and supporting both the SVP of Creative & Business Affairs and the SVP of Finance & Operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of legal, creative, and operational work in a fast-paced theatrical environment.

The Legal Records Clerk (LRC) is responsible for identifying, classifying, and storing electronic and physical paper records. The LRC must also retrieve records for use by attorneys and researchers at NBC/Universal. The Legal Records Management Department observes a strict process of privacy and data protection of our organization’s records which the LRC must adhere to. The LRC must identify and transfer (via pdf) legal contracts to the Electronic Legal Filing system which can then be accessed by approved users.

JOB SUMMARY Drafts, reviews, analyses, negotiates and processes contracts and related documents for all facility construction, A&E design, consultant, and similar services using the NEC and JCT library of contracts and other bespoke forms of agreement to ensure accuracy for operational/project teams in accordance with the contracts policies and procedures and all applicable Universal Creative systems. Work in conjunction with Legal, Risk Management, Project Management (PMO) and Finance departments.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Development: Drafting option/purchase agreements (and option/quitclaim agreements), option extension letters/amendments, writer agreements, director agreements, producer agreements, copyright assignment agreements, novation agreements, turnaround letters, certificates of engagement, licence agreements, services agreements, publisher’s quitclaims, co-development and co-production agreements and acting agreements.

The Role Preferably based in Los Angeles, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 2+ years of music clearance, payments, contract administration, and tracking experience, preferably at a media company. This role is ideal for a music profession who thrives in a fast-paced and high-volume environment. This candidate will need cue sheet reporting, analysis and review along with knowledge of music licensing and clearance.
