Senior Analyst, Production Finance Audit
Job Summary The Production Audit department performs on-site compliance and financial audits of NBCUniversal’s film productions across all banners in the company—Universal Pictures, Focus Features, Working Title, Peacock, and Illumination. The role works closely with various Studio departments (e.g., Physical Production, Labor Relations, Tax, Legal, etc.) to ensure productions adhere to established policies and procedures, local and federal laws, and labor union requirements. Responsibilities Analyze a production’s Budget, weekly Cost Reports and Trial Balances, and general ledger activity since inception Scrutinize the general ledger for costs pertaining to sustainability, labor, assets, and 1099 transactions to ensure reporting requirements are met Perform detailed testing of accounting documents pertaining to accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, and purchasing cards transactions Examine cast and crew payroll records, such as contracts, start documents, and timecards and ensure weekly payments were calculated correctly Confirm a production’s bank account(s) is monitored and verify all funding and disbursement transactions were correctly recorded Research the tax incentive structure applicable to the filming location to ensure qualified costs are properly tracked and tax filings are submitted timely Interview various Department Heads (e.g., Unit Production Manager, Costume Designer, Set Decorator) to understand and document their processes Perform inventory checks of the purchased assets, product placement, and film stock Review Production documents to ensure compliance and reporting requirements for the applicable labor unions (e.g., SAG, DGA, WGA, IATSE) are met Read scripts to get familiar with the content and identify elements that would require additional compliance and regulation such as smoking, minors, product placement, and aerial filming Verify that proper service agreements and insurance for applicable vendors, such as rentals, locations, transportation, catering, and craft service Assess the overall adequacy of security at production offices, stages, on set, and off-site storage facilities Ensure work injuries and vehicles accidents involving cast or crew members are thoroughly documented and reported to the Environmental, Health, & Safety and Risk Management departments in a timely manner Confirm drivers of regulated equipment are compliant with federal laws in respect to qualification files, turnaround violations, and time logging requirements Communicate audit findings to key Accounting and Production personnel as well as to Studio Executives associated with the production via presentation and in person Perform follow-up procedures by obtaining supporting documentation to validate that the audit findings identified were addressed and corrected in a timely manner Prepare an Audit Report that includes all exceptions, the completed remediation procedures, and an overall audit conclusion to be submitted to the CFO and senior management Perform ad hoc audit projects focused on the improvement of internal processes within other departments in the company
